What is Design Thinking?

“Design Thinking” as a way of reasoning and working has gained immense traction in organizations; it has been hailed as a way to re-conceptualize not only solutions in community and organizational settings, but also the very questions that are posed – so-called “Wicked Problems” for which questions, and therefore answers, are obscure. Given the fluidity of societal developments, there is a need for “ design thinkers” who can work collaboratively within non-profits, businesses  and communities to assess challenges clearly, articulate plans to discover the unmet needs of people, and translate information and data into actionable insights that will result in solutions of various sorts that are effective, valid, and delightful. This presentation/discussion will focus on the basic tenets of Design Thinking, its origins, and offer several case studies as to how it has been applied to select projects of various kinds.
